What’s in a name?

If you haven’t taken the nine dot puzzle — stop, right now and do it! It’s a puzzle for testing insight.

That’s right — it’s not a test of intelligence or a game of chance — it’s a puzzle that asks you to get creative and think of unexpected solutions.

And its “simple” — your goal is to use 4 lines to cross every dot in the puzzle, without picking up your pencil:

At first glance, it looks easy enough, but then you try to do it and it becomes seemingly impossible! No matter how you try, one dot always gets left out.

The magic of the nine dot puzzle is that it requires a moment of insight — a creative leap — to become clear: you have to go outside of “the box" of dots to connect them all.

Once you have the insight, the the solution becomes apparent.

But, my favorite part of the puzzle is what happens after.

Now that you’ve opened your eyes to the limitations that once held you, you’re free to be even more creative and inventive. It begs you to ask: could it be done with three lines? Or ONE?!? (hint — yes, yes, it can)
